The Assistant Coach – League plays a key role in supporting the Head Coach in the weekly training and matchday activities for a VPFC League team. This role is perfect for those passionate about youth football who want to help develop players while learning more about coaching.
Key Responsibilities
⚽ Support Training Sessions
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and delivering structured training sessions.
- Work closely with players to provide individual coaching and encouragement.
- Help create an engaging and enjoyable training environment.
🎯 Matchday Assistance
- Support warm-ups and pre-match preparations.
- Provide guidance and encouragement during games.
- Help with player rotations and substitutions.
🤝 Player Development & Wellbeing
- Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for referees and opposition.
- Offer positive reinforcement to help build confidence in young players.
- Help monitor player progress and support their ongoing development.
Desirable Experience or Qualifications
✅ No formal coaching qualifications required—VPFC will fund relevant courses.
✅ Enthusiasm for football and youth development.
✅ Strong communication skills and a supportive attitude.
💡 FA Coaching Support
VPFC supports all new coaches in completing the FA Introduction to Coaching Football course, as well as FA Safeguarding Children and First Aid training. All coaching roles require a DBS criminal records check before starting.
Time Commitment
🕒 Training: 1 hour per week (midweek session).
⚽ Matchday: 90 minutes (including warm-up) on Saturday mornings.
