The Football Development Lead is responsible for shaping and coordinating the club’s footballing philosophy, ensuring a consistent approach to player development across all age groups. This role is ideal for someone passionate about coaching methodology and helping St Albans United teams play exciting, progressive football.
Key Responsibilities
📖 Define & Document a Club Football Philosophy
- Develop a clear vision for St Albans United’s style of play and player development.
- Ensure our approach aligns with best practices in youth coaching.
📚 Create a Coaching Curriculum
- Establish a structured skills progression plan from Reception to Year 6.
- Identify key coaching principles that should be embedded at each stage.
- Support Head Coaches in delivering sessions that follow the curriculum.
📂 Develop a Coaching Resource Library
- Build a database of recommended drills, training sessions, and coaching tools.
- Identify suitable online coaching platforms or software to support session planning.
🗣 Coach Mentorship & Support
- Provide guidance and mentorship to St Albans United’s coaching team.
- Organise periodic coaching workshops or discussion groups.
Desirable Experience or Qualifications
✅ Coaching experience at grassroots or academy level.
✅ Strong understanding of youth player development.
✅ Experience designing training programs or coaching curriculums.
✅ Passion for developing young players and supporting fellow coaches.
💡 FA Coaching Support
St Albans United supports ongoing coaching development, and this role would be well-suited to someone who has completed or is working towards FA Level 2 (UEFA C) or above.
Time Commitment
🕒 Flexible—coordination role rather than weekly sessions
📅 Regular check-ins with coaches and committee as needed
